Beach Vigil App APK

The Goa government has launched a smartphone app that enables people to report beach violations directly to the tourism department.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the Beach Vigil App on Friday, allowing users to report violations such as beach drinking/cooking, abandoned waste, illegal selling, pushing for massages, tattoos, and other illegal activities.

“This is a one-of-a-kind reporting mechanism that will let concerned, well-intentioned individuals file complaints and seek redress.” “Aware individuals may bring concerns to our notice, allowing us to fine-tune service delivery,” said Nikhil Desai, director of tourism.

Stakeholders may report deck bed extension, rubbish, waste littering, hawkers selling items/food, beach weddings or gatherings, drinking or cooking at the beach, illegal structures, sound pollution, autos on the beach, massage, tattoo touts, illegal water sports, and other violations.

In 2019, the Goa Legislative Assembly revised the Goa Tourist Places (Protection and Maintenance) Act to make open cooking, littering, and breaking glass bottles illegal in tourist regions.

A violation of the conditions will result in a monetary penalty of 2,000 dollars, and if the crime is committed by more than one person in a group, the whole group will be fined $10,000.

Tourist footfall in Goa has returned to pre-pandemic levels after the travel restrictions were eased, bringing with it a rebirth of rubbish along the beaches.

Violations reported via the app will be closely watched by the tourist department, which will direct its agencies, including the beach cleaning agency, the lifeguarding agency, its own tourism wardens, and the Goa police, to respond to the complaints.
